Effect of Fish Oil On-Top Feed Supplemented on Boar Spermatozoa Lipid Composition and Semen Quality: A Preliminary Study

چکیده
Introduction Lipids are the main source of energy in metabolism of spermatozoa. The fatty acids are both structural elements and bioactive compounds (1). In most mammals, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is the dominant polyunsaturated fatty acid, although, in several species docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) is also a major component of the sperm cell membrane (2). The high quantity of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) in the membrane phospholipids of spermatozoa are known to play an importance role in membrane fluidity and flexibility. The importance of polyunsaturated fatty acids in relation to male fertility has been illustrated by studies in humans demonstrating that the amount of docosahexaenoic acid in spermatozoa is positively correlated with sperm motility (3). In addition, it is believed that LCPUFAs contribute actively in the regulation of cellular movement, lipid metabolism and fusion capacity. LCPUFAs which are concentrated in the head and tail membrane regions of spermatozoa have been shown to play an important role in both sperm capacitation (4) and the interaction between spermatozoa and uterine surface environment (5). There were the previous studies showed that feed supplementation affected the fatty acid composition of boar spermatozoa by increasing the n-3 LCPUFAs at the expense of n-6 LCPUFAs in the sperm plasma membranes (6,7). The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of fish oil supplemented in the boar feed on the lipids (fatty acid) composition of ejaculated spermatozoa, semen quality and on storability at 18°C.

The effect of diet that contained fish oil on performance, serum parameters, the immune system and the fatty acid composition of meat in broilers.
A study with a duration of 42 days was conducted to evaluate the influence of fish oil inclusion on performance parameters, serum lipid content, antibody responses to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) and the composition of antigen and meat fatty acids in broilers. Two hundred and sixteen 1-day-old broiler chicks from a commercial hybrid (Cobb 500) were allocated randomly to four groups, which rece...

The fatty acid composition of sperm affects the fertilization rate. The objective was to investigate the effects of dietary fish oil (as a source of n-3 fatty acids) on semen quality and sperm fatty acid composition in sheep. Eight Zandi fat-tailed rams were randomly allocated into two groups and fed either a control diet or a diet supplemented with fish oil. Both diets were isocaloric and ison...
متن کاملP-65: Low-Density Lipoproteins Extractions on Boar Spermatozoa Quality Following Freezing–Thawing
Background Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) is known to protect boar sperm during freezing–thawing, but little information is known about the effects of LDL extracted from different avian egg yolks on post-thaw boar semen quality. The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effects of LDL at various concentrations and different species on boar sperm quality after freezing–thawing. Ma...
متن کاملFerrous ion induced photon emission as a method to quantify oxidative stress in stored boar spermatozoa.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of semen storage on ferrous ion induced luminescence of boar spermatozoa and to determine the relationship between parameters of this luminescence and lipid peroxidation as measured by malondialdehyde (MDA) contents. Boar semen samples were diluted in Biosolwens extender and stored for 12 days at 15 degrees C. Luminescence and MDA were measured di...
متن کاملEffect of cryopreservation on lipid composition and antioxidant enzyme activity of seabass (Lates calcarifer) sperm
Cryopreservation of seabass (Lates calcarifer) semen is an approach to increase the quantity and quality of seabass fry in aquaculture. However, cold shock can induce sperm injury leading to structural damage of the plasma membrane and loss of motility. Thus, the effect of cryopreservation on fatty acid composition and antioxidant enzyme activities of seabass sperm was determined. In cryopreser...
